Grateful to the dedicated Organising Committee of SPEAD Brain Emergency Support Workshop 2023, organized by Hong Kong Student Association of Neuroscience, we are invited to promote more awareness and concern about the needs of persons with epilepsy and stroke survivors. The event was held at Medical school of HKU, Sassoon Road on 19 February 2022, Sunday. The topic of our sharing is ‘Psychosocial Impact of Epilepsy and Stroke.

 

Around 170 Form 4 and Form 5 secondary school students who aspire to study medicine, biomedical science or psychology in the future attended the event. Audience also include about 60 student from HKU and CUHK who are organizing committee of the event and helpers for group interactions.

 

A total of 20 representatives of Hong Kong Epilepsy Association and of Hong Kong Stroke Association, who are patients and caregivers of self-help groups for epilepsy and stroke, shared their lived experiences of having and coping with their chronic illnesses. These interaction sessions also provided insights and reflections for students on their potential experiences in clinical work in the future.

 

We look forward to having more young generations to pursue their career in the helping professions, co-creating a healthy and sustainable society for all.
